Take a look at the best beach hotels in Greece.

  1. This 392-room, luxury hotel makes use of its beachfront setting with ample leisure activities to suit both couples and families. From a full-service spa and two outdoor pools, to nature walks, sports facilities, and kids’ activities, this property has it all. Four restaurants and six bars are on-site, plus, this hotel is part of a larger complex housing a few other properties that have a plethora of additional delicious dining and drinking options. Well-appointed, elegant rooms have marble bathrooms with rainfall showerheads, robes and slippers, minibars, and flat-screen TVs with DVD players, as well as furnished outdoor spaces. Though the on-site offerings are robust, the nearby towns are sleepy. Couples may prefer the more intimate, 35-room Achtis Hotel.

  2. The 21-room Rocabella Mykonos Art Hotel & Spa is a luxurious boutique hideaway just above gorgeous Agios Stefanos beach. Built in quintessential Mykonos style -- with lots of winding stairs, whitewash, terraces, and stunning stone walls -- the hotel has a beach-y zen vibe that promotes instantaneous relaxation. Rooms are spacious and modern with artistic, natural decor -- plus amazing views of the sea. The little touches, such as aromatherapy candles for in-room turndown service, make a visit to the Rocabella the epitome of laid-back luxury. Unlike some competitors, the Rocbella has both a spa and gym.

  3. The 70-room boutique Lindos Blu is a luxury, adult-only hotel built into a steep hillside outside historic Lindos, with spectacular panoramic views of the Aegean. From the moment guests arrive, no detail is neglected, from welcome drinks to waiter service at the private beach, from the abundant (and delicious) free breakfast, to dinner at the hotel's romantic, gourmet restaurant. Rooms are spacious, luxe, and lovely, with whirlpool tubs, balconies, and, in some, private pools.

  4. The 15-room Lithos by Spyros and Flora is an upscale boutique hotel located a few miles from central Mykonos, along the shore at Agios Ioannis Beach. Whitewashed and quintessentially Greek in appearance and decor, the hotel has been created with enormous attention to detail, from stylish poolside lounge chairs to unique stone and glass tables in the lobby. Rooms are very large, modern and stylish, with crisp white decor and elegant glass-enclosed showers, plus kitchenettes and private verandas with sea views. The pool terrace, with incredible vistas of the Aegean Sea, is perfect for a sophisticated cocktail as the sun goes down. This is a wonderful value for this category of property, but travelers wanting more amenities, like a spa and gym, could try the Myconian K Hotels.

  5. The 35-room Zante Star is a clean and quiet budget hotel situated on a hillside slightly to the east of Tsilivi and surrounded by olive trees. There is little for children, or even adults, to do here, apart from lounge by the pool, but there is an on-site restaurant that gets good reviews from guests. The town is a good 15-minute walk from the property, and most people who stay here do so to be away from the crowds. Guests who want to be right on the beach may want to consider the Zante Maris Hotel instead.

  6. The 38-room Regina Dell Acqua Resort is an intimate, four-pearl property that attracts repeat visitors with its setting across from the beach and a 15-minute walk from Skala proper. Traditional room decor is underwhelming, but amenities like jetted tubs and separate showers, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and furnished outdoor spaces are upscale. In addition to the beautiful lounger-lined beach (fee), the hotel offers a large pool and separate kiddy pool, Mediterranean restaurant and pool bar, and spa treatments. On the downside, the gym is ill-equipped. Travelers looking for a few more on-site amenities like a kids' club and more spa facilities may prefer Apollonion Resort & Spa

  7. Those traveling in Crete for leisure and seeking an upper-middle-range boutique hotel experience should consider the Casa Moazzo Suites and Apartments. Its location, on a pedestrian-only street among shops and restaurants, is one of its greatest assets -- for those who don't mind parking off-site and taking a short stroll to the beach. Its most notable amenity is the daily breakfast served in a lovely, landscaped interior courtyard. But there's little in the way of extras otherwise -- for example, there is no pool or gym. There is free Wi-Fi in rooms and common spaces, and an attractive lobby bar. The six rooms and suites are each uniquely decorated and have a bohemian aesthetic, with exposed stone walls, wrought-iron balconies, and cozy brocade pillows; all have plasma TVs, coffeemakers, and kettles.

  8. Repeat guests love the mid-range Dina's Paradise Hotel and Apartments because of the beach proximity, gorgeous swimming pool, and comfy rooms. This smaller hotel with 10 apartments and one suite is centrally located to a sandy beach with calm waters (via steep stairs, common in Greece) and about a 15-minute drive to Corfu. The area and beach have plenty of restaurants, water sports, and shops geared toward tourists. Back at the hotel there's a nice size adult's pool and kiddy pool with a terrace and views of the Ionian Sea. The pool-adjacent bar serves cocktails and snacks, plus breakfast in the morning (for a fee). Apartment-style rooms have full kitchens and more sea views. Note that some rooms are only accessible via steep steps without an elevator.

  9. The 142-room Lindos Mare Hotel is located along a secluded road near historic Lindos, high on a hill overlooking picturesque Vliha Bay. The hotel's private beach is reached via stone stairway or elevator, and guests can swim and sunbathe as waiters supply the drinks. The architecture and airy, whimsical decor in rooms and common areas give the hotel a dreamy, romantic feeling, and most find service attentive. There are a total of three pools (including a children's pool) plus tennis court, fitness center, and kids' club all on-site.

  10. The 308-room Atrium Platinum Hotel is a luxury Aegean seaside resort for couples and families, located a quick drive from Rhodes City. The hotel offers a full fleet of amenities and services, which is great for travelers keen on spending most of their time on the property. Features include two game rooms, a kids' club, five modern restaurants and two bars, and a glitzy full-service spa. Wi-Fi and breakfast are free. The hotel has contemporary furnishings, but the minimalist design feels sterile and unfinished in some areas. The nearby Smartline Cosmopolitan Hotel has more approachable interior design details.

  11. This 27-room, upper-middle-range hotel offers guests a relaxing atmosphere in a convenient spot along the beach. The beautiful pool and restaurant terrace on-site stand out from the others occupying the waterfront shopping lane. Grounds and interiors are sophisticated and peaceful, with lots of chic furnishings and bright flowers. Black-and-white apartment-style rooms have kitchenettes, iPod docks, and furnished outdoor spaces, plus some have separate living areas. Note that breakfast is not included in the rate and some balconies aren't very private. Those looking for a more kid-friendly hotel should check out Imperial Med Hotel, Resort and Spa, which offers a children’s pool, playground, and on-site entertainment.

  12. Restia Suites is an adults-only five-pearl property with an emphasis on relaxation and luxury. The location on the sandy beach of crystal clear Almyros Bay is a bit removed from the village of Acharavi, but that means no noise -- and there's a free shuttle bringing guests into town throughout the day. That said, most guests don't leave the property until it's time to check out. All of the rooms are luxe suites that look and feel like a private sanctuary, with some having their own pools. Sun loungers are available by the communal swimming pool and on the beach. Wi-Fi and breakfast are free, and there's a poolside bar and restaurant for casual fare. Pietra serves gourmet Greek and international dishes. The on-site spa gets high marks for treatments and has a sauna and steam room.

  13. A sprawling upscale complex on the Greek island of Rhodes, outside the town of Lindos, the 256-room Atrium Palace Thalasso Spa Resort caters to European couples with its stylish Greek decor and lush gardens, serene shingle beach within walking distance, buffet dining, six outdoor pools, poolside cocktails at swim-up bars, and a relaxing spa with three indoor pools. Rooms and villas are large and traditional (some might say dated), and some have private pools. Sea views are available from higher-tier rooms, although lower-tier rooms can have uninspiring views. There are also plenty of amenities for families, including a kids' club, and many guests book all-inclusive packages through tour operators.

  14. Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort is a design-forward luxury property with many of the same features (chic outdoor swimming pool, beach facilities, spa, restaurants) as its competitors in this price range. The suites have private swimming pools, two bedrooms, and telescopes for star gazing. Other guest rooms have minimal decor and outdoor balconies, though these are less than private. The small beach here is lovely, with loungers reserved for hotel guests only, but it's a bit pebbly. For access to a slightly wider stretch of sand, visitors might want to check out Myconian Villa Collection (overlooking Elia Beach) or Petasos Beach Hotel (located on a peninsula between the very popular Platis Yialos and Psarou beaches). Many, however, prefer the seclusion offered here.

  15. The 44-room Hotel Costas Golden Beach is a value property with beach access that really lives up to the hotel's name. Guests choose this property for its quiet (maybe too quiet for some) location on the water and gorgeous views, plus friendly service and spotless rooms. The swimming pool is built above the sea line so it offers great views of the sandy beach. There is also a hot tub and tennis court. Continental breakfast (expect to pay more for hot items) and a dinner buffet are included with the room rate. The hotel hosts evening entertainment such as karaoke and dancing. If you'd like to stay closer to the village of Agios Giordo, check rates at Dina's Paradise Hotel and Apartments.
