Set back from the road in a pretty white building that conjures Grecian getaways, this intimate, 19-room hotel is wonderfully located in walking distance to the main tourist area, but away from all that noise and clamor. Pub Street and the Old Market are a 10- to 15-minute walk away, but Sok San Road, where the hotel sits, has plenty of restaurants, shops, and traffic on it as well. Rooms have polished hardwood floors, slat-wood furniture, and small balconies or terraces. Amenities include flatscreen TVs, minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi, as expected in mid-range hotels. The higher category rooms have espresso machines, too. While the hotel's stand-alone rates aren’t a tremendous bargain, its packages that include a tuk tuk driver, breakfast and diner, and a few other perks, are a good value.
An attractive white building surrounded by vegetation with teak furnishings, red tiled floors, and a golden Buddha statue
Hidden from the main street by a thicket of foliage, the intimate Diamond D'Angkor is only announced by a small stone sign. Beyond the vegetation, the gleaming all-white building seems airlifted from the Greek islands and dropped into downtown Siem Reap. Wide steps flanked with giant planters lead up to the lobby where floating lotus flowers and a golden Buddha sculpture bring guests back to Cambodia. Red tile floors, fine teak wood chairs and tables, and ceiling fans decorate the lobby and hotel's lone restaurant. Most guests tend to be couples looking for a quiet and cozy property in the heart of Siem Reap.
Just 10 minutes on foot from the Night Market, Pub Street, and the tourist heart of Siem Reap
While not right in the heart of things, Diamond D'Angkor Boutique is located about a 10-minute walk from the Night Market and Pub Street area of central Siem Reap. (Many prefer to take cheap tuk tuks as Siem Reap doesn't have many sidewalks.) The hotel sits on Sok San Road, a busy backpacker thoroughfare with lots of small bars, restaurants, and travel agencies, although businesses thin out near the hotel. It is parked next to a large nightclub; thankfully, it doesn't get noisy at night. All in all, the location is a pleasant mix of quiet surroundings with proximity to the main tourist area. From here, the temples of Angkor Wat and the airport are both around a 15- to 20-minute drive.
Attractive wood floors, appealing decor, rain showers, and outdoor space
Hardwood floors, hand-crafted globe lamps, and slat-wood furniture decorate the hotel's 19 guest rooms. The color palette swings from a mossy green to a loud lipstick red, depending on the room. All rooms come with flatscreen TVs, minibars, safes, electric kettles, and free Wi-Fi. Some Deluxe Rooms have espresso machines, and the top-end Junior Suites have DVD players and mosquito nets draping the beds. Bathrooms lack tubs, but they have designer vessel sinks and rain showers bordered with decorative gray pebbles. A small balcony or terrace is in every room, giving a little outdoor space either overlooking the pool or the surrounding area.
Intimate restaurant and bar in the lobby, plus a small swimming pool and spa
As a small property, the Diamond D'Angkor packs in a few pint-size features. A small but pleasant rectangular swimming pool gives a spot to cool off, though it doesn't have many sun loungers (nor much sun for that matter). But it does have a lovely poolside sala that makes a romantic photo op. The hotel's sole restaurant and bar serves free breakfast and does Khmer and Western dishes for lunch and dinner. Most guests here stay here on a package which includes a free dinner in the restaurant. (Packages also include free minibar items and a a tuk tuk for temple transport.) A tiny two-room spa and a small workstation with a guest computer add to the short list of features.
